Interview with a blues band: Reflections on the Durban International Blues Festival

It was in late September that we were fortunate enough to grace the stage at Durban’s International Blues Festival. As far as blues gigs go in South Africa, this one is a biggie. As semi-professional musicians, we’ve grown very accustomed to dingy bars and cramped restaurants. Often the assurance of an instrument backline is met with great disappointment when the club owner proudly leads you to a stage filled with nothing more than a broken DI box for the bassist and a set of rusty drums once used as a stage prop for a high school musical in 1963. Rarely do we have the privilege of individual monitors and crystal-clear sound courtesy of industry professionals. So the International Blues Festival is a highlight on our calendars.

This year we were lucky enough to be interviewed by Kuluma TV after the gig (that little press section on our website cried out in glee at the addition of a new entry!). The gig went down really well and the festival lived up to its reputation as the premier blues event in SA. For those of you that missed it, here’s the the interview courtesy of Kuluma TV:
