The weekly top 5 playlist – 5 October – The Rolling Stones

Although the Rolling Stones can be likened to a quartet of mature prunes, these aging rock stars definitely know their way around the blues (in fact, that’s where the Stones got their name). The London rockers began their careers hanging on the coattails of Chess Records blues greats like Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry and went on to achieve phenomenal global success. For us, they’ve always been a blues band. Here’s a list of some really awesome songs to prove it (some of these are from a time when Keith Richards looked a little less like 150-year old leatherback turtle). Long live the Stones!

  1. The Rolling Stones – Champagne and Reefer
  2. The Rolling Stones – Honky Tonk Woman
  3. The Rolling Stones – Stop Breaking Down
  4. The Rolling Stones – It’s Only Rock and Roll
  5. The Rolling Stones – Little Red Rooster
