Blues in Ballito: A Festival of Flem

So you no doubt saw the title of this post and couldn’t curb your curiosity. Intrigue got the better of you and after checking over your shoulder to make sure the boss wasn’t watching you clicked the mysterious link. Now you’re leaning forward in your chair with a slightly puzzled look on your face as you try to decipher the relationship between blues, Ballito and flem. Allow me to clear up the confusion. Tomorrow evening, Ballito will play host to the inaugural Spog Weni Flem Festival and we’ll be headlining the evening with a late night performance of tasty blues.

The festival with the curious name (Spog Weni means ‘junction’ or ‘a place of meeting’) aims to provide a platform for KwaZulu-Natal artists, as well as those from further afield, to spread their musical wings (would musical wings be those of Led Zeppelin’s Icarus?). We’re  hoping the event will be a raging success and will skyrocket our humble musical careers into the limelight. We’ll become famous and have gold-plated toilet seats and drive Aston Martins and name our children after breakfast cereals just because Gene Simmons from KISS dared us to. Or perhaps we’ll just have a great gig and an awesome party. Hope to see you there!

Check out the Spog Weni Facebook event page for more info or visit Overtone or Computicket to get your tickets.

In the meantime, here’s a flem-inspired clip to keep you going before the festival (we realise that flem would be spelled ‘phlegm’ in this case…)
