The weekly top 5 playlist – 17 January

This week’s playlist seems to have inadvertently become a collection of covers, which tends to happen a lot in the world of the blues. From Zeppelin’s incomparable and thunderous rendition of that 1929 track about the Mississippi Floods to John Mayer’s version of a Ray Charles classic that certainly does the original justice, here’s our Top 5 Playlist for this week:

  1. John Mayer – I don’t need no doctor (originally by Ray Charles)
  2. Samuel L. Jackson – Stack-O-Lee (from the soundtrack of the film Black Snake Moan and originally recorded by R.L. Burnside)
  3. Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks (originally recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie)
  4. Dan Patlansky – Dead Shrimp Blues (originally recorded by Robert Johnson)
  5. Eric Clapton – Have You Ever Loved a Woman? (Originally recorded by Freddie King)
